When World War II broke out, Noor and her brother Vilayat, who, as all four
children, had lived and studied in Paris, both felt that they could not remain passive
before the threat which disrespected so deeply the highest human values - their
father had lived an example which had become their own.
Both travelled to England and Noor trained to become a intelligence specialist,
she trained hard to serve later in the “Résistance”. During these years she lived the
painful life of the adult, of which she had earlier told in her stories: “The fairy and
the Hare” feels like a metaphor at the sight of the realities she was confronted with
now in her beloved Paris.
In the year 2006 a special book of Shrabani Basu was published, its name is
´Spy Princess, the Life of Noor Inayat Khan´. We have quoted from it, a little, most
advisable for whoever wished to learn more about the life of Noor and her family.
Her life ended so early. On September 14, 1944 she was killed in the concentra-
tion camp of Dachau. Often we feel that we miss her as a most dear friend. How it
would have been, if she had been granted to live a long life, a promise! How much
more we could have learned from her courageous and loving example. Enjoy the
most special fascination and music of these enchanting stories, which brought us
to illustrated them, translate them and publish them anew.
Thank you for your most appreciated interest.
