Sohbet of the Week (20 - 24)

Hydrabad poetry around 1910 - 3

Hazrat Inayat Khan, during his stay at the Court of the Nizam of Hydrabad around 1910, collected a rich variety of poetry and music, which is published in the ‘Minqār-i-Musiqār’, presented in our earlier Sohbets – the book is available at Sulukpress.

Ghazal of Rasikh 33 – Rāg Tilak Kāmod, Tāl Pashto

My longing has produced such tears,

that I have a shrine of pearls for a tomb.

I will have to give your groom my blessings,

my bad luck has sprung up again.

I will fall headlong on that stone threshold,

and then will my destiny burst open.

It had to be I who was destined to be straight,

and you alone who would turn my disposition.

Thousands of fingers are raised, Rasikh;

your reputation is quite notorious.
